The low impact nature of Pilates makes it perfect for women in pregnancy, preparing for the birth.
Women experience particular issues when exercising at the different phases of pregnancy, and modifications are needed in each trimester. Pilates equipment and swiss ball exercises are used:
- to maintain fitness during pregnancy
- to support and strengthen the body for birth and post birth phase
- to recover as quickly as possible to full physical health following labour
Pilates is also a very effective means of improving a wide range of specific women’s health issues, from pain related to the hip and sacroiliac joints, to improve function in weakened pelvic floor and low back muscles, to more complex obstetric concerns.
